Black History Month

In Southwark, Black History Month has been celebrated for over 25 years with a programme of inspirational events and workshops throughout October. Every year schools, libraries, groups and organisations host events, many of which are funded by our grants programme.

We'll offer a number of small grants of up to £500 to enable smaller community celebrations of Black History to take place. For larger events, grants of up to £2,000 are available.

Social distancing at events

All applications will need to show how events will comply with current regulations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to keep staff and audiences safe.

Applications for online events

We'll continue to accept applications for online-only events and activities. Events in both community settings and online need to comply with government COVID-19 regulations in place in October.

Help with applications

Advice on delivering live events within social distancing guidelines will be offered to interested applicants, prior to the application deadline, from our Events team. We'll also provide written guidance in how to run events online.

How to apply for funding

This year all applications must be made via our new online grants portal.

It will open from 1 June 2021.  Guidance documents etc. will also be available at this location.
