Response rate

The ONS received 251,900 completed census forms from Southwark residents (to the nearest hundred). The ONS then carried out a Census Coverage Survey and various other adjustments to reach the census estimate of 288,300.

Southwark’s response rate for 2011 was 87%. This is a significant increase from 2001, when the response rate was 76.8%.

In 2001, Southwark had the 7th lowest response rate, and in 2012 Southwark had the 8th lowest rate. This is in line with the rest of London, as response rates are significantly lower in central London. The average response rate nationally was 94%.
