Members' code of conduct

The Localism Act 2011 made fundamental changes to the system of regulation of standards of conduct for elected and co-opted councillors. The council adopted a new local code and new arrangements for the monitoring and enforcement of the code on 4 July 2012.

The council has a duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct.

The council's code of conduct (PDF, 95kb) must, as a whole, be consistent with the following seven Nolan principles:

  1. Selflessness
  2. Integrity
  3. Objectivity
  4. Accountability
  5. Openness
  6. Honesty
  7. Leadership

Members' code of conduct

If you believe that a councillor of Southwark Council has breached the code of conduct, you can make a complaint to the monitoring officer by completing the breach of the members' code of conduct complaint form (docx, 33kb) .

The arrangements for dealing with complaints can be found in the members' code of conduct complaints investigation procedure (PDF, 182kb).
