Cabinet Member for Public Health & Community Safety

To lead the council’s public health work and our partnership with the NHS, including the public health response to the Covid19 pandemic. To reduce health inequality in the borough including tackling HIV, drug and alcohol services and mental health issues. To lead public health work across Cabinet, including working with the Cabinet Members for Social Support & Homelessness regarding homelessness, Leisure, Environment & Roads regarding physical activity and fitness, cycling, walking, and air quality, and Jobs, Culture & Skills regarding healthier high streets

To deliver a safer Southwark through oversight of council initiatives and services concerned with community safety including tackling anti-social behaviour and violence against women and girls. To lead joint work with the police and other community safety partners. Work with the Safeguarding Adults Board and community safety partners.

To lead the council’s work on regulated services, licensing and trading standards.

The cabinet member will have particular responsibility for

  • Health & Wellbeing Strategy (working with the Cabinet Members for Children, Young People & Education and for Social Support & Homelessness)
  • Reducing health inequalities, including those faced by black, Asian and minority ethnic communities
