Southwark Youth Parliament

Southwark Youth Parliament (SYP) is a group of young people, elected by young people to represent the voices of young people through their schools and local area. With the aim to give young people an opportunity to influence on council decision-making and work alongside council officers and elected members on addressing priority topics that matter most to the young people of Southwark.

Southwark Youth Parliament are leading on 3 priority issues that are key topics for the young people in Southwark. During their two-year term, they have worked and created podcasts on these important issues:

  1. Black Lives Matter
  2. Knife Crime
  3. Mental Health

We are looking for two representatives from your school or youth group to become Southwark Youth Council members and represent the voices of your peers. There is no limit to the number of people that can register to stand as candidates. Your school or group will vote to decide on the two candidates they want representing them.

Who can apply

Young people between the ages of 14 and 19 (year 9 to year 13) who live in Southwark are eligible to apply. You can represent either your school or local area. If successful, you will become part of the Youth Parliament for a term of two years.

If you have special education needs or disabilities (SEND) you can be a member up until the age of 25.
