Who can foster

There’s no such thing as a typical foster carer.  You can be single, married, in a relationship, LGBT, hetrosexual, with or without your own children.

We are especially interested in hearing from people who can foster teenagers, sibling groups or would be interested in doing parent and child fostering.  If you are not working or working in a flexible job where you can put the needs of a child first we would love to have a chat with you.

Are you energetic? A good listener? Have you got the patience and understanding a child needs?

If the answer is "yes" and you also have a spare room at home, then fostering with Southwark could be for you. It's an amazing opportunity to make a difference to the life of a child who may not have had the easiest of starts.

We will support you throughout their fostering journey, preparing you for what is involved and offering a full range of support and advice.

To find out more, come along to one of our information sessions where you can talk to someone already fostering with us and to an experienced social worker.

Whilst we are pleased to hear from anyone who wishes to foster, you do need to have a spare room.  If at this present time you don’t, please get in touch with our Family Link team or the Independent visitor scheme .
