Why adopt with Southwark

Southwark's experienced team of professionals will provide you with bespoke advice and support throughout the entire adoption process.

Comment from the Ofsted report:

“Social workers in Southwark work hard to ensure that there is no delay for children who may be able to be adopted. Children from a wide variety of backgrounds and of different ages are adopted. When they have been adopted, their parents receive good support from the local authority when they need it”  Ofsted 2017

By adopting with us you will benefit from:

  • dedicated and direct contact with the recruitment, family finding and post-adoption support teams
  • positive Ofsted judgement 'outstanding'
  • very low levels of adoption disruptions and break downs
  • £1,000 incentive for school, community groups and faith groups

The local authority adoption process can be quicker than applying through other adoption agencies. Non-public agencies must go through a process of contacting local authorities to match parents with children. If you apply directly with Southwark Council, you are working directly with the team who is responsible for children and families; and who also work closely with the other Councils across the UK.

You don't need to live in Southwark to adopt with us. We warmly welcome applications from people who live outside the borough.

"Family life has started better than we could have imagined"

"We have been very impressed with our dealings with Southwark Council. Everyone with whom we have had dealings have been warm, very understanding, empathetic, considerate and very hard working. It is clear that the welfare of the children in their care is central to their culture, and we as prospective adopters felt highly valued and now post adoption feel likewise."

"I am encouraging other couples to contact Southwark Council, based on our good experience. We do feel so lucky to have found our child and for all the support we received in adopting him. They made our family complete"
