The fund

The aim of the High Street Challenge is to attract more people to Southwark’s high streets and town centres, and to increase the amount that is spent in the area. All projects will make a positive contribution to helping local SMEs thrive and make our high streets more inclusive, particularly for low income and BAME communities. We invite applications for funding under four key themes. These are:

  • Supporting diverse independent food businesses
  • Healthy high streets
  • Digital high streets
  • Cultural and community events

We launched our High Street Challenge Fund in 2014 to enable residents, businesses and community groups with an interest in Southwark to help improve their local high streets. Since then we've funded over 50 projects across the borough, supporting great initiatives from markets to waste management via pop up shops and lots of events!

Round 8 is open from 6 January to 14 February 2020. To find out more about this round read the High Street Challenge prospectus (pdf, 3.7mb). We’ve also put together a few useful do’s and don’ts (pdf, 95kb) to help you prepare your application.

Completed application forms (docx, 136kb) should be with us no later than 5pm on 14 February, see the prospectus (pdf, 3.7mb) for more details.

You can also read about successfully awarded projects from round 7, as well as projects that have been awarded funding in previous rounds of The High Street Challenge.
