About procurement

Procurement is the process of buying goods, services and works (from both third parties and in-house providers), in order to provide for the needs of the council, the community and its citizens both now and in the future. The process covers the identification of needs through to the end of a services contract or the end of the useful life of an asset.

We spend millions of pounds each year on the procurement of works, supplies and services, in order to:

  • fulfil our responsibility to the community
  • provide companies with a wide range of commercial opportunities

We have a corporate procurement unit that supports officers to purchase correctly and achieve the best value for money.
