Advice on asbestos

Asbestos containing materials isn’t a cause for concern if it’s in good condition and in a place where they’re unlikely to be disturbed.

However, when asbestos materials age or become damaged (eg when drilled, sawn, scrubbed or sanded), they can release toxic fibres into the air. Breathing in asbestos fibres is dangerous and can lead to asbestos related lung diseases, including cancers.

It's important that you don't damage asbestos or handle asbestos that’s been damaged

If you'd like further advice on asbestos, including the duty to manage asbestos, contact the health and safety team or visit the HSE website.
