Economic Renewal Plan

The economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis will be far-reaching and difficult to predict. In response, we've developed an Economic Renewal Plan (PDF, 1.3mb) with immediate, short, medium and long term priorities. The plan will be set around four key themes - employment & skills, business, high streets and town centres, and wellbeing.

The plan is designed to capture all council activities aimed at reducing and mitigating the economic impacts of the crisis. It will support future inclusive economic growth in the face of these new economic challenges. The renewal plan will be a constantly evolving document with no final version. Responsibility for delivery will be shared across the council, and it will be shaped through engagement with key partners in the borough.

The COVID-19 crisis also presents us with opportunities to adapt, be flexible in our approaches and do some things differently as we continue our mission to protect and grow a fair, equal and inclusive local economy, ensure preparedness for Brexit, tackle climate change and fight for social justice. We know that the coming months and years will be difficult for many of our residents and businesses. Putting them at the heart of economic renewal is essential for a recovery that works for the benefit of all of our Southwark communities.
