Waste collection services update

All services are currently operating normally, although unusually high levels of waste have resulted in some collections being slightly delayed.

  • communal Services (refuse and recycling) are generally operating normally, but high volumes of waste have meant that small numbers of collections may be carried into the following day
  • refuse & recycling kerbside services (green and blue bins) are operating as normal and collecting on the usual scheduled dates
  • organic waste collections (brown food and garden waste bins) are operating as normal and collecting on the usual scheduled dates

The use of some temporary crews has resulted in a higher level of missed collections than usual over the last 1 to 2 weeks.  Please report a missed collection on the reporting a missed collection page if your collection has not been completed by the end of the working day when it was due (ie after 4pm).

Resident van permits

If you're using a van or other similar vehicle designed mainly to carry goods, you should apply for a Resident Van Permit to visit the recycling centre. Van access is restricted to specific periods of each day, because vans generally take much longer to unload and can obstruct or cause hazards to other site users because of their larger size. You will need to attend between 8:30am and 9:30am on the date you select, and must complete all unloading and leave the site during this period.

Full terms and conditions are included in the application process, but please note:

  • you must attend during the time period and date stated on the permit and comply with site safety rules
  • all waste must be separated by type and deposited correctly into the storage bays for each material
  • trailers of any kind are not permitted, and only standard bodied vehicles can enter the site - no tippers or specialist vehicles can use the household recycling centre
  • all wastes must be from your own household, and you cannot include any commercial waste types, or waste from any trade or business
  • van permits are limited to four per calendar year for each property/resident in Southwark
  • you must produce driving licence and other ID with an address that matches the permit to be allowed access
