Council Tax reductions
Some residents are eligible for a Council Tax reduction based on their circumstances. Find out if you can apply for a Council Tax reduction based on your circumstances.
If you receive welfare benefits or tax credits
If you receive one of the welfare benefits or tax credits listed below you should get a payment from the Government to help with the cost of living in 2023-24. You should automatically receive this if you get one of these benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit
- Employment & Support Allowance (income based)
- Jobseekers Allowance (income based)
- Working Tax Credit
- Income Support
The payments are worth £900 and will be paid in three separate instalments of £300 between spring 2023 and spring 2024. The Government will announce the exact dates these payments will be made later this year. When payments are made they should go to the same bank account used to pay your benefits. If you do not get this money when you expect it, you can report a missing cost of living payment on the GOV.UK website.

Help for pension-aged residents
To get the most support, pension-aged residents (aged 66 and above) must apply for Pension Credit. We work with community partners to help vulnerable pension-aged residents get all the benefit support they are entitled to.
