How to write for our website and our A to Z style guide.
Bullets and numbering
Bullet points help to break text up and make it easier to scan. When you use bullets make sure:
- you use at least 2 bullet points
- you use no more than 7 bullet points
- each bullet point only includes one sentence
To introduce bullet points:
- use a lead-in line ending in a colon
- start each item with a lowercase letter
- do not use a full stop at the end
This will help to make your bullet points scannable for users as they read your content.

At the library you can:
- borrow books
- attend reading sessions
- find out about courses
Numbered lists
Numbered lists:
- should only be used for sequential instructions where things must be in that order
- must be written in sentence case, therefore, start the first word after each number with a capital letter and use a full stop at the end.
