East Lodge restoration and activity planning

We asked for your views on the proposed restoration of the Grade 2 listed East Lodge building at Nunhead Cemetery, as well as additional facilities and activities you would like to be made available there in the future.

You showed great support to the project and gave us lots of feedback on how you value the site at the moment and how it could be improved through the provision of facilities and a programme of activities.
We did
We submitted a funding application in order to develop the project further and to eventually deliver it.
Should the application be successful, the development phase is expected to start in Autumn 2022 and will involve some in-depth public engagement activities throughout 2023.
All the ideas collected through the survey will inform the interpretation strategy and activity plan.

Overview
Southwark Council and the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery aim to restore the East Lodge located at the Linden Grove entrance to the site in order to make it available for public use as a community facility. The restored Lodge would have step free access to both floors with a café, publically available and fully accessible toilet facilities, an exhibition space, community rooms and Friends of Nunhead Cemetery visitor reception area. Associated improved access, landscaping and additional facilities are also being included – such as facilities to improve practical work and provide a base for volunteers.
This survey is being undertaken by Southwark Council and the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery (FONC) to help us better understand why visitors come to the cemetery and, especially, to help us plan for the future of the East Lodge and the cemetery as a whole.

Planning permission has been granted for the restoration of the building and we are now consulting on what visitors enjoy about visiting the Cemetery now and what additional facilities and activities they would like to be made available there in the future.
The survey is anonymous and participation is completely voluntary, you may stop participating at any time. The personal data gathered in this survey will remain confidential, you will not be asked for any mandatory identifiable information, although this information will be held and used to inform this consultation and project.
If you are interested in participating in future workshops or consultations relating to this project, do leave your name and contact details. The information will be shared with the Friends of Nunhead Cemetry for the period of this project and Southwark Council will hold the information securely for a period of 4 years as is required to meet our obligation to hold consultation information for scrutiny.
