Regenerating Southwark
Southwark is fast becoming one of London's most dynamic boroughs with 40 per cent currently under regeneration and developments valued at around £4 billion.
Southwark's council driven, council led regeneration is a massive programme which will affect how we live, work and socialise, from businesses to developers, and residents to young people, which is why it is important for you to be informed of what's going on in the borough.
Find out what initiatives are happening in your area and how you can become involved by following the links below and on the left hand side of the page.
Residents
From Aylesbury to Woodene estate, regeneration is taking place in 11 areas. Keep up to date with what is happening in each area by following the links on the left hand side.
Economic development
To support Southwark's economic strategies, the economic development team is undertaking its annual review of training, employment and enterprise contracts for 2009-10.
This means that specialist support will be granted to local people to help with employment and training. Find out how we could help you get back into work.
Businesses
The regeneration programme entails us supporting a wide variety of enterprise related projects to ensure good innovative business ideas develop and existing businesses in Southwark have support to develop.
Do you have a business idea or need help with your business? Are you an organisation that can offer training and help people back into employment? Then why not apply for funding and prove what you can do for the borough. There are many ways you can get involved in the regeneration of Southwark. Visit the Business Support pages for further information.
Our community
Southwark Council is committed to supporting the community. Our Community Involvement and Development Unit (CIDU) works closely with local groups across the borough, delivering projects to enable increased participation and involvement of residents, and providing support to local initiatives throughout the borough. Find out what projects are underway and how you can get involved.
Development opportunities
Southwark regeneration projects adhere to the Southwark plan and Southwark 2016 sustainable community strategy to ensure a high standard and create opportunities for local people. The planning and transport division provide a number of services such as considering planning applications and formulating planning and transport policies. Anyone considering carrying out building work must comply with the London Building Acts and building regulations. The council can also enter into a section 106 or "planning obligation" with a developer. Find out further information about development opportunities by visiting the Planning and Building Control pages.
