School Catering Southwark schools provide a fully inclusive two-course meal for a set price each day, in line with national nutritional standards. These ensure that children are provided with a healthy, balanced diet.
The new standards require
- High-quality meat, poultry or oily fish are regularly available
- At least two portions of fruit and vegetables with every meal
- Bread, other cereals and potatoes are regularly available
Additionally, there are controls on the following foods
- Deep-fried food limited to no more than two portions per week
- Fizzy drinks, crisps, chocolate and other confectioneries may be removed from school meals and vending machines
If you have any queries about school catering or if your child has dietary requirements, contact the headteacher or one of the school governors. You may wish to arrange an appointment to go into school and see for yourself the service being provided.
