Overview

Help us take the right steps to improve women's safety

Following the death of Sarah Everard, there has been a national outpouring of grief and discussions about women’s safety.

All women in Southwark have the right to feel safe.  We want to hear the experiences of women in Southwark, to understand how safe they feel living, working and travelling through the borough.

Understanding your experiences will help us to work out the right steps to improve the safety of all women in our borough.

We have already developed a women's safety charter of principles that commits staff working at licensed premises to act in a responsible and supportive manner, taking all reports of female harassment seriously.  Following last year's violence against womens and girls survey, we have also developed proposals for new services to tackle domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based abuse.  Organisations will be able to bid to deliver these services later this year.

We now want to look at what more we can do.  That's why we would like to hear from you.

Our safer communities team at Southwark Council are carrying out this survey.  It's completely confidential and takes about 15 minutes to complete.  Please remember to leave your email address if you would like feedback.

This survey closes Friday 25 June 2021.

Advice and support services on domestic abuse can be found here

Why your views matter

We are committed to taking action to improve women’s safety in Southwark. In order to do this, we need to listen to the experiences of those who have experienced abuse or harassment as well as understanding whether women generally feel safe or unsafe in certain parts of our borough.

What happens next

We will gather and analyse what you have told us from this online survey in July 2021. We will also identify priority areas for action, to address the specific safety concerns raised by women in Southwark.

During July, we will also give feedback on how you have shaped the development of activities to improve women’s safety in Southwark.

Everyone who has completed the online survey and given their email address will receive a feedback report.  We will also publish the results of this survey on the council's website and social media platforms.
