Project details

A distinct 5 storey corner block with a stepped down 4 storey block on Old Kent Road and a 3 storey wing on Penry Street. Providing 24 residential mixed tenure new homes comprising of 13 new council homes, 11 private homes and 3 commercial units at ground floor level.

In 2015

  • a feasibility study was undertaken by Ash Sakula Architects which showed 23 new homes could be delivered on the site, along with 208 sqm of commercial space
  • the council held their first public consultation in January
  • the council held a second public consultation in November

In 2016

  • the council held a public exhibition in July presenting the final proposal that would be submitted to planning
  • the council submitted a planning application in September

In 2017

  • scheme was referred for design changes by Planning Department in March
  • in April, Clarion Housing Group entered into a partnership arrangement with the council to deliver Lot B
  • Conran & Partners Architects revising the scheme for resubmission to Southwark’s Local Planning Authority

Next Steps

  • early 2018 - second public exhibition to present final proposal being submitted for planning

  • early 2018 - scheme resubmitted to planning department
  • mid 2018 - contractor to take handover of the site from the council so works can begin on the development
