Are you interested in the ongoing transformation of Borough and Bankside?
Residents, businesses and stakeholders will have another chance to have a say on the planning principles that will underpin any future development.
Between January and March this year the council asked people for their thoughts on the Bankside, Borough and London Bridge Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), which aims to make sure that any development, brings new homes and jobs and creates an exciting and successful place.
It includes guidance on the design of development, building heights, what uses are appropriate, how section 106 money is spent and how new development should help improve streets and public spaces.
There was a good response to the consultation, but given the importance of the issues at stake, residents and businesses wanted the chance to comment further.
The council therefore decided that it would re-open the consultation for six weeks starting on Friday 17 September and ending on Friday 29 October 2010.
Speaking ahead of the launch of the consultation, Councillor Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration said:"Regeneration is crucial to bringing more jobs and prosperity to the borough.
"Over the next 15 years a range of development is expected to take place in Bankside, Borough and London Bridge, particularly new housing and business.
"But we can't forget that many Londoners have a stake in Bankside, Borough and London Bridge. They live there, work there and spend their free time there. We want to make sure that any future developments take into account their views on the area."
The council wants residents, businesses and other stakeholders' views on its vision for the area, which includes:
- Over 1,900 new homes
- Around 25,000 new jobs across a range of industries
- Small local businesses will continue to thrive alongside large global companies
- Sustainable neighbourhoods with a range of housing, shops and facilities to meet the needs of local people.
- Local people will share in the benefits of regeneration and investment in the area, through employment and training schemes. This will include new and improved community and youth facilities.
- Growth in the area will be supported by major investment and improvements to transport infrastructure, including a new entrance to Blackfriars Station at Bankside, increased capacity on Thameslink and a remodelled London Bridge Station.
- New development will recognise and enhance the different character and roles of places and respect their past.
- Improvements will help people move more easily through the area by walking and cycling. There will be a good quality network of public spaces and links between them will be improved. New trees and landscaping improvements will make places feel greener.
