London in Bloom success

Published 8 September 2010

Southwark won its first ever gold in the London in Bloom competition this year.

Southwark won a gold in the borough category of London in Bloom 2010 and Dulwich Park won a gold in the large park category.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for environment, transport and recycling, said: "I'd like to thank everyone in Southwark who rolled up their sleeves and got digging, planting, and beautifying the borough.

"It's wonderful to have been awarded our first ever golds, for the borough and for Dulwich Park, and I hope we can build on this success next year."

Ric Glenn, head gardener at Dulwich Park, said: "It's brilliant the park has won this gold award, but it couldn't have happened without the great work and enthusiasm of the community, especially the passionate Friends of Dulwich Park group.

"I work with a knowledgeable and highly trained team here at Dulwich and it's great that the judges appreciated the work that we, and the local community, had put in."
