Charles Dickens in Southwark
Published 30 March 2012
For the whole of April Southwark libraries will be taking part in Cityread London, a celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens.
Libraries in all 33 London boroughs will be promoting the novels of Charles Dickens and by encouraging everyone to read Oliver Twist - form the world's largest book group!
Southwark has strong links with Dickens - in both his life and his work. You can find out more in your local library and at the many events and activities taking place throughout April.
Highlights include:
Dickens in Southwark - a local history talk at John Harvard library, Saturday 14 April 2012
Claire Tomalin - acclaimed biographer of Dickens at Canada Water library, Saturday 21 April 2012
There's also an exciting history trail available every day at all libraries for children to take part in, and a writing competition for adults and children "The Dickens Digest" which starts 7 April 2012 and runs until the end of May. Drop in to your nearest library to find out more.
