River pier future looking good

The new owners of the Greenland pier are to be announced this week.
A number of promising bids have come forward from companies who have said they want to take on the ownership and running of the facility in Rotherhithe.
Southwark Council is currently looking for an investor to purchase the pier and carry out necessary improvement works.
A number of good quality bids have now been received and council officials will decide who should be the new owners within the next seven days.
The Council is also hoping to agree short-term arrangements to secure the river ferry service pending handover to a new owner.
Cllr Barrie Hargrove, Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Recycling, said:
"We are very pleased with the bids that have come forward to take over Greenland pier and we are very optimistic that we will be able to find a new owner who will provide the necessary investment. We've always said that we are looking for someone who has the vision to make it a landmark feature of Rotherhithe so that it can continue to serve the community and commuters using the river".
Southwark Council inherited Greenland Pier in 1997 from The London Docklands Development Corporation and is seeking a new investor to take over the pier.
