A new multi-million pound centre to support disabled people is to officially open its doors next week (21 February) in Southwark.
The £3.6million Southwark Resource Centre can help up to 100 people access local services across the borough while working to ensure that they maintain their independence as much as possible.
The centre is fitted with a range of facilities including an arts and crafts studio, exercise floor and dance studio, an independent living skills kitchen and an IT suite that will enhance peoples' existing talents and help them fulfil their ambitions.
Staff will work in partnership with voluntary, statutory and business sectors to make the facility a hub for supporting disabled people across Southwark to reach their potential.
The centre is one of the first developments on the New Aylesbury Estate and been designed to promote independent living and shape disabled peoples' needs.
Building work on the centre was completed in June last year. It will have its formal opening on Tuesday (21 February).
Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle, Southwark's Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: "Our new resource centre will play a critical role in the local community by supporting disabled people so they can access the services they need while encouraging them to retain their independence.
"We have a great team of staff who are absolutely dedicated to the job and will work tirelessly to help some of the most vulnerable members in the borough lead rich and fulfilling lives."
