Southwark encourages parents to meet the primary school admissions deadline
Published 29 December 2011
The 15 January admissions deadline is fast approaching and Southwark is urging parents to complete their primary school application on time.
Online applications are being encouraged as they make the process is even easier, quicker and more flexible.
Every effort is made by Southwark Council to ensure that parents gets one of their choices, however it is inevitable that some schools will be oversubscribed. This year nearly 80 percent of parents were successful in receiving a place in their first preference primary school and 94 percent received an offer of one of their six preferred schools.
Parents must endeavour to meet the January deadline, if they want to have the best chance of getting their child into the school of their choice.
According to recent figures from the Department for Education, Southwark's primary schools continue to perform above the national average.
Catherine McDonald, cabinet member for children's services said:
"Southwark primary schools continue to perform really well and parents can feel safe in the knowledge that their children will receive a high level of education.
"It's really important that parents and carers submit their applications by the admissions deadline and list their six preferences."
