Published 7 December 2011
Thirteen organisations will receive funding from Southwark’s third round £1.5m transition fund, to help them operate during the economic downturn.
Organisations are in line to receive awards of up to £25,000 from the council's transition fund scheme.
Black Business Initiative, Camberwell After School Project, Cambridge House, Corali Dance Company, Faces in Focus, Golden Oldies Community Care Project, Peckham Settlement, Peckham Voluntary Sector, South Asian Elderly Association, Southwark Legal Advice Network (SLAN), Southwark Consortium of Supplementary School , Southwark Cypriot Day Centre and Southwark Irish Culture and Arts Development Centre have all been successful in securing transition funding.
Council officers from relevant council departments together with representatives from Community Action Southwark (CAS) and the Forum for Equality & Human Rights organised the round three assessments.
Round three was open to any organisation funded by the council regardless of previous successful or unsuccessful bids made in round one and round two. Unsuccessful groups in previous rounds were provided with written feedback and advised that they could re -submit the previous application, submit a new application or provide additional information.
Cabinet member for equalities and communities at Southwark Council, Councillor Abdul Mohamed said:
"As part of our commitment to ensuring a fairer future for all in spite of government funding cuts, we are offering funding to these organisations.
"There has been a great response to the transition fund and there has been more flexibility in the application process for organisations during round three."
The proposed allocation for round three totals was £191, 678 in addition to £550,906 that was previously provided for rounds one and two. A total of £737, 084 has been awarded to 42 organisations. This is within the agreed budget as set out in the Policy and Resourcing Strategy agreed by Council Assembly on 22 February 2011.
The third round Transition Fund 2011/12 report is available on the council's web pages.
