Council offers free parking to help shoppers and businesses this Christmas

Published 1 December 2011

Peckham car parks will be free to all visitors from this weekend until New Year’s Eve, and weekend parking is now free in the council’s car park near East Street.

The move comes as the council pledges to offer support to local businesses, and is urging residents to shop local this Christmas.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for transport, environment and recycling at Southwark Council, added:

"I'm pleased to be able to offer this help to local traders and shoppers. It's more important than ever to give a boost to local businesses, and this free parking will hopefully be an important part of our push to get more people shopping locally this Christmas."

Background Information

Free weekend parking in Peckham car parks (Choumert Grove, Copeland Road and Peckham Town Centre) on a Saturday from 03/12 to 31/12.

Free weekend parking is already in operation at Stead Street car park serving East Street Market (from November 26).
