Disruption to council services expected on 30 November

It is expected that there will be widespread disruption to Southwark Council services as a result of the national industrial action that has been coordinated for November 30.
Managers are currently assessing the extent to which services will be affected locally and the council's website will be kept up to date with the latest details. But residents and businesses are asked to think about how expected changes to council services may affect them and plan accordingly.
It is expected that many schools in Southwark will be affected and closed. Parents and guardians are asked to keep checking the situation with their child's school and discuss with their employer necessary alternative arrangements for that day.
For our vital services, such as children's or adult social care, there will, as always, be continual cover, in line with the council's usual business continuity procedures, including the out of hours service. We are grateful that the trade unions recognise that essential services must be available to support and protect those most in need.
Some other areas of the council may be unaffected, some will be running a reduced service and in some cases, there will be no service at all on November 30. Contingency plans are already being agreed to respond quickly to any backlog that may develop from that day. We will try to keep the website updated with the latest service information as we have it.
The council's advice to residents and businesses is that they should use their judgement as to whether they get in touch with us on November 30, ie if they feel that it is something urgent that cannot wait until the following morning when all services will be restored to normal.
