Consultation on affordable housing now closed
Published 3 October 2011
Consultation on the 2011 draft affordable housing supplementary planning document (SPD) closed on 30 September. We are currently reviewing comments received.
The current SPD was adopted on 26 September 2008 and will be replaced by the 2011 SPD.
This draft SPD will replace the 2008 Affordable Housing SPD and takes into account changes in national, regional and local policies. It provides guidance on the new core strategy and area action plan policies and the saved Southwark Plan policies on affordable housing.
Our definition of affordable housing is: "Meets the needs of households whose incomes are not enough to allow them to buy or rent decent and appropriate housing in their borough".
Within our planning policies we identify two types of affordable housing:
- Social rented housing
- Intermediate housing
Updated national policy guidance introduces another type of affordable housing called 'Affordable Rent'. We are currently looking at the implications of this new definition for Southwark and may need to review the SPD in the future to take account of any changes.
