Disruption on Tooley Street
Published 14 November 2011
Southern Gas Network (SGN) will be carrying out a gas main renewal on Duke Street Hill and Tooley Street from Borough High Street to Stainer Street. These works will commence on Monday 14 November 2011 and will last until mid February 2012.
As a result of these works Tooley Street will be closed eastbound to vehicular traffic. Access will be maintained at all times, and a cycle lane travelling east and westbound will also be maintained.
During the closure, eastbound traffic will be diverted and clear publicity will be available showing the route of diversion.
Network Rail is also working in the London Bridge area, undertaking preparation works for the London Bridge Station upgrade providing necessary new connections. The following utility companies will be working on behalf of Network Rail to provide new services to the station under SGN's traffic management:
- Thames Water will be laying a new water main; their works will begin on Tuesday 15 November 2011 and will be completed by Friday 16 December 2011
- UK Power Network (UKPN) will be installing new ducts and their work will also begin on Tuesday 15 November 2011 and will be completed by Friday 16 December 2011
- Virgin Media have also taken the opportunity for collaborative working and will be carrying out a new customer supply during this time, dates for this work are not yet available
Whilst we appreciate that a certain level of disruption is inevitable TfL has worked closely with SGN, Network Rail, and the London Borough of Southwark in order to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local people and businesses as far as possible.
The works will be carried out 7 days a week within the following timeframes:
- Monday to Saturday - 7am to 10pm
- Sunday - 10am to 3pm
- 24/7 non noisy works will be carried out as and when required
These working hours have been agreed in conjunction with the London Borough of Southwark's environmental health team.
Bus routes 47, RV1, N381, N47, 381 and 343 will be diverted; publicity along the line of diversion route will be available.
You can find more information about how your bus journey will be affected by using the TfL journey planner. Publicity will also be displayed in the affected bus stops.
TfL, Southwark Council, Network Rail and the utility companies involved are making every effort to coordinate works taking place in Tooley Street, and are working together to keep local businesses and residents informed in order to minimise the impacts on users of the local roads, transport services and public realm.
TfL would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause. Should you require further information please contact our Streets Customer Services department on 0845 305 1234 or via the tfl website.
