Southwark's best ever top grades for 'A' levels

Southwark schools are celebrating their best ever A* - A level grade exam results this year after a seven percentage point rise from 2009.
Eighteen per cent of the exams taken this year, contributed to top grades for Southwark students (A* - A). Nearly 70 percent of the exams resulted in A* - C grades and 95 percent resulted in A* - E grades. These results maintained their level of improvement from 2009.
Catherine McDonald, cabinet member for Children's Services at Southwark Council said:
"These are excellent results for our students and I'm absolutely delighted to see that we have continued to improve our performance in 'A' level exams.
"The results are a testament to the hard work and efforts made by pupils and teachers, with support from parents and carers I would like to offer my congratulations to all our pupils for achieving these fantastic results."
"I encourage pupils considering university but worried about fees to consider applying for one of our Southwark Scholarships, where the council will pay tuition fees for a small number of high achieving pupils who would otherwise be put off university by fees."
