A special armed forces flag was raised at the town hall on Monday to mark national Armed Forces day, which is on Saturday 25 June.
Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry VC, the youngest man ever to receive a Victoria Cross, attended the occasion, alongside councillors and the Mayor of Southwark.
The Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Lorraine Lauder MBE, said the event was important to raise awareness of those in the armed forces, both past and present.
"It is really important that we fully appreciate the sacrifices of so many in the field of recent or continuing conflicts, who are fighting to uphold British values of democracy respect and tolerance. We also need to publicly recognise the contribution of those who served in past wars and conflicts to defend our values and freedom. By raising the flag on this day we pay tribute to all who continue our nation's proud tradition of patriotic heroism and sacrifice."
