Ever wondered about your family history? What about the origins of the building you live in?
If you didn't already know that Peckham was once a farm, that bear baiting and leather making were once popular in the north of Southwark, or that Burgess Park was once home to a canal and a lemonade factory, from today you can find out all this and more.
Southwark Council's superb new John Harvard Library is now home to the borough's local history library - which opens its doors today. Here you can browse newspapers from centuries past and flick through business directories listing the borough's entrepreneurs from times gone by. Or you can look up your surname to find out about your own family's origins in the borough.
