Southwark travellers tell their stories

Southwark Council today launched Pavee Widden, a collection of photographs and recollections of Gypsy Roma Travellers living in Southwark as a part of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month.
Alongside the Leader of the Council Peter John, Irish Ambassador, his Excellency Bobby McDonagh will be attending at Southwark's headquarters in Tooley Street.
Southwark has more Travellers sites than any other inner London borough, and Pavee Widden allows the Traveller community to tell their stories and challenge stereotypes.
The borough has four Travellers sites with three located in Peckham close to important services such as schools, transport and shops.
Cllr Peter John, Leader of Southwark Council said: "Travellers living in Southwark are an integral part of the community and our wealth of sites for Travellers is one of the things that makes this borough special. These pictures just go to show that our borough is a place where people from different backgrounds and cultures can come together to live successful lives and create Southwark's unique sense of community."
