Southwark tops Eco-school table
Published 17 May 2010
A massive 97% of schools in Southwark have now signed up to the Eco-schools scheme.
Southwark has a highest percentage of schools registered as Eco-Schools, than in any other local education authority in England, according to latest figures.
110 schools in the borough have signed up to the scheme, which represents 97% of all schools in Southwark.
Of the registered schools, 72 have bronze certificates and 21 have silver certificates. Two have a green flag - they are Charles Dickens Primary, Borough and St Johns Catholic Primary, Rotherhithe.
Schools across the borough are helped in their bid to become Eco-Schools by the council's climate change and sustainability team. Once registered, schools follow a simple seven-step process which helps them to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.
