Koruso community choir to appear at Southbank Centre
Published 7 April 2010
Koruso, the Southwark Community Choir, is appearing in a free concert at the Southbank Centre on Sunday 25 April at 12.30pm.
It's part of a new series of free choral performances called Voicelab Welcomes, featuring some of the finest choirs from across the country.
Koruso, meaning chorus in Esperanto, is supported by Southwark Council and began in October 2008 and has grown from a small choral group to a self-run community choir with a wide ranging repertoire, performing music that bridges cultures and unites faith traditions.
To date Koruso has performed at a variety of venues across its home borough, and risen to the challenge of a live performance on BBC radio. The choir is made up of council staff and residents from across Southwark who sing in Bass, Tenor, Soprano, and Alto sections.
The Southbank performance will be led by Koruso's Musical Director, Andrea Brown, with the choir's principal accompanist, Michalis Angelakis. The programme will be a rich cross cultural mix of music from South Africa, Macedonia, Jamaica, America, Greece, and the UK. All but one piece of music will be performed in four-part harmonies.
