Regeneration professionals gather to see the future of Southwark

This evening will see professionals in regeneration and representatives from businesses from around the capital gather to look towards an exciting future for Southwark.
The conference, Southwark Reborn, hosted by Southwark Council at its Tooley Street offices, will celebrate the successes of completed projects in the borough and look at future opportunities for the central London location.
The event will be attended by landowners, developers, local businesses, architects, urban design and planning practitioners.
A range of speakers will present on a series of short topics including:
- Current and future plans for the borough
- Southwark property opportunities
- Regeneration in areas that are not 'fashionable'
- The localism agenda
- How do well designed buildings contribute to the regeneration of a wider area?
- What we have achieved in Southwark so far
- Next steps - opportunities for development in Southwark
- Forthcoming planning policy documents
Councillor Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration, said, "This is an excellent time for experts in regeneration to get together and be part of the gathering momentum surrounding Southwark's regeneration. This is an exciting period in the borough's development and I look forward to building on the increasing number of successful projects. Only by working together with local businesses and industry professionals from project inception can a smooth process be achieved, drawing from previous experiences, creating opportunities and finding out the best way forward for local residents and businesses. "
External speakers include Simon Alford, Director Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (160 Tooley Street, London Bridge), (Sunshine House, Peckham), Chris Brown, Chief executive of Igloo Regeneration (Bermondsey Square), Dan Labbad, Chief executive of Lendlease (Elephant and Castle).
An exhibition will also be on display promoting the positive development and the innovative schemes that Southwark is known for, and showcasing some of the high quality schemes that have been delivered, or approved, in Southwark over the past five years or so. There will be a variety of images, maps and scale models on display.
The exhibition will run until 20 May, the short conference will be from 4.45pm until 7pm on Tuesday 10 May in the atrium at 160 Tooley Street, SE1 2QH.
