More than thirty Southwark residents and community groups received Civic Awards for their work to make Southwark a better place to work and live.

The Southwark Civic Awards were founded in order to encourage Civic Pride and rekindle the links between all communities within Southwark.

Held at St. Giles Church in Camberwell on Saturday 8 May and chaired by the Mayor Cllr Jeff Hook, along with two past Mayors, the awards ceremony highlighted the significant contribution that residents have made to the richness of Southwark.

In the Letter of Commendation category awarded to nominees who had demonstrated an exceptional contribution to the life of the local community for a period exceeding five years, the work of resident Trevor Cunningham was particularly recognised. A school governor at The Charter School, Trevor has never missed a single meeting in the past ten years.

Emma Rose was also recognised for her exceptional and voluntary dedication to, and fundraising for, the Time and Talents Association over the past twenty years.

Sceaux Gardens Estate Tenants and Residents Association received the Community Group of the Year for its work in providing help and assistance to Lakanal residents during the terrible fire at the estate last July.
