Thames Tunnel consultation drop-in sessions

Have your say on the proposed Thames Tunnel.
On 14 January, Thames Water completed its phase one public consultation for the proposed Thames Tunnel, to deal with the 39 million tonnes of untreated sewage which overflows the river each year, when London's Victorian sewerage network becomes overloaded.
In phase one, Thames Water invited feedback on initial proposals for the tunnel's construction operation which included a preferred option to use King's Stairs Gardens (Rotherhithe) as a major construction site.
During this consultation, Chambers Wharf, Bermondsey, was discounted as a potential site as it had planning permission for housing with developers. This is no longer the case and Thames Water has now aquiried the area and is considering Chambers Wharf as the construction site.
Consultation with Chambers Wharf is from 11 to 12 March 2011. Drop in to Beormund Community Centre, 177 Abbey Street, London SE1 2AN, Friday 11 March (10am to 7pm) and Saturday 12 March (10am to 4pm).

Councillor Fiona Colley, cabinet member for regeneration said, "This is good news. The council is pleased that Thames Water is looking at alternative options to King Stairs Gardens and will continue to support the protection of green spaces in the borough.
"As a riverside borough, we recognise the importance of reducing pollution in the River Thames and regardless of which site is ultimately chosen, ensuring that construction traffic and other disruption to local residents and schools is minimised will be a priority for the council."
