Artists urged to get creative as Silver views gets underway
Published 4 February 2011
Artists planning to take part in this year's Silver Views exhibition are being urged to start creating their 'mini-masterpieces' to make the deadline.
Silver Views is a showcase of art by Southwark's older artists which launches Silver, Southwark's festival for older people.
The work will be on display at Cafe Gallery in Southwark Park from 8 April 2011 and remain open to the public throughout the festival.
This year artists have been invited to create work on the theme of 'Place' and visitors to the exhibition will encounter a wide range of interpretations of this idea in a variety of media including paintings, sculpture, ceramics and textiles.
During the festival, Cafe Gallery will host a variety of additional Silver activities including talks, workshops and panel discussions.
Background Information
Silver Views launches the festival on 7 April 2011 with guest artist Andrew Logan.
Silver Views is an open submission exhibition, curated for the second year running by Lucy Wilson and Alex Julyan and situated in the stunning contemporary spaces of Cafe Gallery Projects, Southwark Park. Works by regular contributors, first timers and senior groups are exhibited side by side, giving a unique opportunity for amateur artists to exhibit alongside professionals.
Submission days for the exhibition are on 24 and 25 of March 2011.
For the first time Silver Views will be awarding three prizes: The most innovative use of materials, the most engaging interpretation of the theme and the judges' favourite.
Continuing their relationship with major cultural institutions Silver Views will be linking up with cultural venues such as Tate Modern, the Design Museum , the National Gallery and the Fashion and Textile Museum who will be offering talks and workshops during Silver. There will be additional exciting events taking place in Cafe Gallery Projects and Dilston Grove during the exhibition.
