Council website redesign
Published 20 March 2010
Over the past six months we have been working with residents from across the borough to find out exactly what you want from the council website, what you like about our existing site and, particularly, what stops you from using it.
We have carried have out focus groups, surveys, and one-to-one interviews to gather a wealth of data and insight.
What you said
Overwhelmingly you said that the old website was cluttered, ugly, confusing and dated. You said it was hard to find your way around, that the content was sometimes out of date and that the search was poor.
You said you wanted a website that represented the vibrancy and multi-cultural-ness of Southwark, and that it should have more bright and colourful pictures of the people that live here.
What we have done
We have focused on getting the basics right first. Some of the key improvements you will see are to the areas we get the most feedback on:
- We have replaced the search engine - it will be faster, more intuitive and provide more accurate results
- We have added all our key services to the A to Z - we have replaced council jargon with plain English words and phrases
- We have simplified the navigation
- We have removed all traces of the purple and orange design
We have also introduced registration so that you can keep track of your enquiries in one place and can make the website more relevant to you and your interests.
Find out how make the website even more useful and relevant to you.
A few weeks ago we launched our new online mapping service which is already proving popular. You can search by postcode or address and see where services are in relation to your home.
