National Adoption Week 1 to 7 November
Published 1 November 2010
The theme of this year’s campaign is every child deserves a family. Find out how Southwark can help you complete your family.
There are many children across the country waiting to find a good family. Unfortunately those who wait the longest are older children, those with disabilities, brothers and sisters, and children from some black and minority ethnic backgrounds.
The aim of this year's National Adoption Week campaign, every child deserves a family, is to encourage people to adopt children from these groups.
Adopting in Southwark
Here in Southwark we are always looking for people who feel they can make a difference to the life of a child. People who can provide a warm loving home to a child or young person on a permanent basis.
In the last two years we have helped 30 children, from 2 to 11 years old and from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
Our policy is to place children in homes that reflect their ethnicity, especially those of black and dual heritage or mixed couples. At the moment we are looking for homes for children of mixed heritage (White/African Caribbean) and children from African backgrounds.
