Save the Velodrome campaign

The Save the Velodrome campaign continued last night at a public meeting held at Dulwich College.
Southwark Council Leader Peter John, who pledged £25,000 to kickstart a fundraising drive, said
"I have always said that as a borough we can only rise to the challenges we face by working together - residents, council, local organisations and businesses. The campaign to save the Velodrome is proof of the energy and ambition that can be generated if we all work together."
Councillor Veronica Ward, cabinet member for culture, leisure, sport and Olympics said:
"Cycling is a real British success story. The UK's name etched in Olympic history. This velodrome is an important chapter part of that story. But this is about the future. We must not miss the opportunity to ensure the Velodrome is saved for the next generation of cyclists. It would be a wonderful contribution to the Olympics in 2012, but more than that, a boost for cyclists everywhere after 2012. We back this campaign and we will work with Dulwich Estate and British Cycling to find a solution."
