Food waste pilot scheme launches
Published 1 October 2010
A pilot scheme to recycle food waste has now launched in parts of the borough.
The recycling trial, enabling around 10,000 of you to now separate food waste, will result in increased recycling rates and less rubbish going to landfill.
Food and other recyclable goods currently fill up, on average, around two thirds of your bin. If you're in the pilot scheme your weekly collections have been adjusted to ensure as much as possible of this is now recycled in a way that is easy for you.
We will keep a close eye on its progress and welcome your feedback in order to make it as successful as possible. We will be holding a series of surgeries across the borough for you to drop in and ask questions.
Our aim is to reduce the costly and environmentally damaging practice of sending waste, that could be recycled, to landfill.
