Search and Rescue exercise on the River Thames
Published 28 September 2010
A major search and rescue exercise will take place on the River thames on the evening of Thursday 30 September.
The exercise, directed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, will simulate a collision between a passenger boat and a commercial boat near Tower bridge.
You may well see action on the Thames by these services and the rescue of 'passenger' involved in the pretend collision.
It will be a chance for London's emergency services including the Coastguard, Police, Fire and Ambulance services and RNLI to test their responses to an emergency.
All emergency services personnel will be easily identifiable.
Although every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, nearby residents might hear some activity on and around the river, which will include a police helicopter that will be in the area for some part of the exercise.
To make the exercise realistic smoke may also be seen coming from one of the vessels.
