The Nunhead school has seen its rating rise to ‘Good’ in all categories following an inspection by Ofsted in February.

Inspectors praised headteacher Reema Reid and governors for their ambition for pupils and staff.  Their report noted that since the school’s last assessment in 2016, pupils’ progress has improved.

The inspection report paid particular attention to the highly skilled staff that helped early years children get off to an excellent start. Inspectors also noted funding was used effectively to support children with special education needs and subsequently they do well across a range of subjects.

Alongside academic achievement, inspectors praised the attention the school paid to pupils’ strong moral and social development noting “Pupils are proud of their school. They are polite and caring towards one another. They conduct themselves well around the school and are polite and welcoming.”

The final report highlighted that staff supported children to develop their self-confidence and noted that “Teachers [built] supportive relationships with pupils.”

Hollydale pupils told inspectors that they felt safe in school, that bullying is rare and dealt with urgently. Pupils also stated their teachers listen to their views, for example, leaders acted on suggestions to improve the playground.

The report also highlighted that “Parents reported that the school has enabled their children to flourish”.

Cllr Victoria Mills, Cabinet Member for Children and Schools, said: “What shines through in this report is Hollydale's commitment to providing a well rounded education to their pupils that encompasses their personal development too. It is fantastic to see that pupils have such pride in their school and are engaged with their work. This report is a reflection of the commitment of the whole school community to set ambitious targets and to work together to achieve them. Well done to everyone at the school and I look forward to seeing Hollydale continuing to improve.”

Reema Reid, headteacher at Hollydale Primary School, said: “We are delighted to have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The last few years have seen us progress and develop at an amazing rate to improve our school, enabling us to give our pupils the opportunities that every child deserves. Ofsted have recognised the hard work and commitment of our whole school team in securing this rating, and we are immensely proud of everyone involved with our school; pupils, staff, governors the local authority and parents alike. We will continue to strive to be the best that we can be!”
