The Charter School East Dulwich reaches latest construction landmark

Following on from the completion of the ground floor of the school back in October 2017, the Charter School East Dulwich has celebrated the next phase of construction.

The topping out ceremony marked the completion of the concrete frame of the new 11-18 co-educational school that will serve communities in East Dulwich, South Camberwell and Peckham.

The school has been operating in temporary accommodation on Southampton Way since September 2016. The school and its pupils will relocate to its purpose-built facilities in December of this year.

Mayor of Southwark Charlie Smith, Leader of Southwark Council Peter John, Cabinet Member for Schools, Children Cllr Victoria Mills and Dulwich and West Norwood MP Helen Hayes were all in attendance to mark the progress of the build.

Cllr Victoria Mills, Cabinet Member for Children and Schools, said: “Each time I come to one of these events it is great to see the progress that is being made on the school. As a council, we are incredibly proud to continue to invest in the education of our young people. This school also underlines our commitment to creating much needed secondary school places. When completed, I am sure the new facilities will match the high standard of education that the Charter School offers.”

Alex Crossman, Headteacher of The Charter School East Dulwich, said: "We are delighted that so many of the local politicians who have supported the development of our school could attend this important milestone in its growth."

The construction of the new school is being managed by the Regeneration team in Southwark Council.
