Renovation work starts on Burgess Park West

1 November 2017

Southwark Council is pleased to announce the start of the Burgess Park West project, a £3.5million investment in improving the south western area of the park.

This is the next phase of the Burgess Park master plan, it is a huge investment into today’s beautiful and extremely popular Burgess Park. This latest stage promises a children’s play area, new Quietway cycle routes, the removal of New Church Road from inside the park and the transformation of Rust Square into a garden with meadow planting. Results from four public consultations will inform the work, which will take place over the next year.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, Cabinet Member for Communities, Safety and Leisure, said: “I am happy to announce these further improvements to the monumental transformation of Burgess Park. The park is already hugely popular, and we hope the new play area, Quietway pathways, planting and renovation will open up even more space for local people.”
