Statement regarding senior officer salaries

11 April 2017

Councillor Fiona Colley, cabinet member for finance, modernisation and performance, said: “The council has a duty to publish senior officers’ salaries on an annual basis. The numbers quoted are difficult to compare with other authorities as what is included in the figures varies from one organisation to another. In March 2016, there were in fact 19 members of staff whose jobs fell into the grade bandings earning over £100,000.”

“We agree with the sentiments of the Local Government Association: Southwark Council is one of the largest local authorities in the country, and in London, it is a complex organisation delivering hundreds of vital services, including child protection and the care of vulnerable people. It is important that we employ people of extremely high calibre for this kind of role.”

The data is drawn from our statement of accounts, which can be found online here. The relevant table is on page 54 of the report.

In March 2016, there were 19 council employed staff whose jobs fell into the grade bandings earning >£100k (ie directors and above).
