Learning in libraries

Our libraries are committed to services that support your learning. Whether you're taking up a new hobby, learning about computers or gaining formal qualifications, we provide a range of activities and books to help you achieve your goals.

What you can learn

We offer courses that can:

  • help you use a computer for the first time
  • teach you how to use the internet and email
  • help you job hunt online

UK online centre courses

All of our libraries are part of the national Online Centres Network, which has been set up to help you get online and give you local internet access.

Learning in our libraries offers you:

  • free tuition from trained library staff (delivered in small groups in an informal environment and at a pace that suits you)
  • free impartial advice about courses   
  • free membership (allows you to borrow books and other materials to support your learning 24 hours a day)  
  • free homework help
  • space to study
  • free computer hire
  • scanning, printing, faxing and photocopying facilities
  • access to a wide range of learning provided by our partners such as Southwark Adult Learning, local PCT, Blackfriars, Money Advice Service 
  • opportunities to take part in major national, local and regional learning events such as Family learning festival
